In previous articles we spoke about how to clean your trucker caps and how to keep lighter caps looking crisp. We’ve spoken about the importance of not machine washing your trucker caps and what to do instead (ie: pop it in the dishwasher!).
What we haven’t covered yet is how to get rid of pesky sweat stains in your trucker caps. That’s why in this article, we’re going to offer you some tips on how to do just that. By removing sweat stains from your trucker caps, you’ll be able to keep your headwear looking and smelling fresh. Let’s get into it.
Get your trucker caps dry cleaned
If you’ve got the budget, the best way to sort out the sweat stains in your trucker caps is to get them dry cleaned. Before you commit to a dry cleaner though, make sure they have enough experience cleaning trucker caps. The last thing you want is your prized trucker cap returned to you in disrepair.
Most people don’t bother with dry cleaning their trucker caps, and unless the cap is of particular sentimental value there are easier ways to remove those pesky sweat stains from your trucker caps.
Spot clean your trucker caps
Another effective way to remove stubborn sweat stains from your trucker caps is to spot clean with a mild detergent. Gently rub the cleaning solution into the offending sweat stain until it disappears. Rinse out the solution with another clean cloth. This is a great way to clean the sweat band of your trucker caps, so that they’ll look clean and smell fresh.
Sweat responds quite well to household vinegar so try that mixed with some water first!
Pop your trucker caps in the dishwasher
One super easy way to effectively remove sweat stains from your trucker caps is to simply pop them in the dishwasher. Before you do though, make sure that your dishwasher is empty and free from any food scraps. You can use regular dishwashing detergent provided it doesn’t contain any bleach that may discolour your trucker cap. Secure your trucker caps to the top shelf of the dishwasher with a couple of pegs.
When it comes to dishwasher settings, cold or warm water is best. Then once the cycle has been completed, simply remove your trucker caps from the dishwasher and dry them in the shade. All you need to do is set them on a towel inside to dry. Good as new!
Or you can hand wash your trucker caps
Another option for removing sweat stains from your trucker caps is to hand wash them thoroughly. To follow this method here’s what you’ll need to do:
- Fill a large bucket or your laundry sink with warm water and a small amount of laundry detergent. Don’t forget to make sure the detergent is bleach-free.
- Next, grab an old toothbrush and spot clean the offending sweat stains and any other grubby parts of your trucker cap.
- If the sweat stains are particularly stubborn, you can let your trucker cap soak in the water for up to four hours.
- When you’re ready to rinse, make sure you use cool water. Shake out any excess water from your trucker cap and place it on a towel to let it air dry. This will help to preserve the shape of your trucker caps.
What not to do: Washing machine
When it comes to caring for your trucker caps, one thing you definitely don’t want to do is throw your cap in the washing machine. But surely that’s the most efficient way to remove sweat stains from your trucker caps? Nope!
We don’t recommend machine washing any of our GFOUR trucker caps, and for good reason. Washing machines can squash your trucker caps, they might end up clean but they’ll be totally misshapen. Avoid the washing machine at all costs when removing sweat stains from your trucker caps!
